2008 Inductee

Deb KinneyDeb Kinney

Deb Kinney graduated from Pekin High School in Packwood, Iowa and then attended the University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education, with an emphasis in Health Education, graduating in 1972.

Deb started her teaching career in 1972 at the Clear Creek School in Cosgrove. She was transferred to the Clear Creek Amana High School in 1989 and taught there until she retired in 2007. She has taught all three levels in the Clear Creek Amana School District and developed the health education program for the district.

Deb has been involved with many activities in the CCA school district. Besides teaching Physical Education and Health she has coached junior high girl’s basketball and track for 12 years and girl’s golf for 20 years. Deb has been the Student Council co-advisor with Mrs. Bryn Hayes for 10 years which involved planning homecoming, Sponsor a Family, retreats and conferences, plus many community and school activities. Deb has also kept stats along the sideline for football for 10 years and has kept book for basketball and volleyball. In 2000, Deb received the Excellence in Education Award for work with the CCA Student Council. She has also been selected by the National Society for the Teacher Recognition Award in 2006 and 2007.

Deb has touched the lives of many students over her 35 years of teaching and coaching in the Clear Creek Amana School district.

Deb’s family includes her husband Pat, who graduated from the first consolidated class of Clear Creek High School. Pat is employed at Don Hummer Trucking in Oxford as the payroll accountant. They reside in Oxford, Iowa.

Her son, David, a 1994 CCA graduate, lives in Chicago and is employed as a senior sales manager for the Hotel Orrington in Evanston, Illinois, which has allowed him to travel extensively in the United States. He is also actively involved in fundraising campaigns for benevolent organizations in Chicago.

Her daughter, Sarah, a 1997 CCA graduate, lives in the Kansas City area and will be married in October of 2008. She is employed as an event manager for Vista Productions, which has allowed her to travel to China, Costa Rica, host many cruises, as well as attend the 2008 Super Bowl.

Deb’s parents live in Wickenburg, Arizona and she enjoys traveling to see them as much as she can.

Deb is involved in the community as well, being an Eucharist minister at church, serves on the church parish council, serves as a Poll Election Official for Johnson County, and volunteers with the DeGowin Blood Donation Center by going out into the surrounding communities with blood drives many times a month.

Deb enjoys playing golf, walking, biking, exercising, making jewelry, reading, being a big Hawk Fan, a Cub fan, a Clipper Fan, and taking care of two dogs. She is a member of the Stone Creek Golf Club, where she has helped organize various outings and tournaments. Deb plays golf on golf leagues at Stone Creek as well as Pleasant Valley Golf Course.

Deb is a member of the Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Iowa. She enjoys subbing and meeting new students in the CCA school district. Deb has traveled with her husband extensively in Arizona, Alaska and Great Britain, and has cheered on the Hawkeye football team in all the Big 10 football stadiums and has started over with the Hawkeye basketball teams.
